Jim and LuAnn Charboneau named 2012 grand marshals
Jim and LuAnn Charboneau have been named Barnum’s 2012 Spring Fever Days grand marshals.
Jim and LuAnn have lived in Barnum for most of their lives. Jim moved here in fifth grade and LuAnn in fourth grade. After they were married in 1974, Jim enlisted in the Air Force. The family was stationed in areas such as Colorado, Wyoming, and North Dakota. In 1987, they moved back to Barnum to raise their family. Their children are jenny, Jessie (Joanna), Natalie (Greg) Wark, and Elizabeth. They now have two grandchildren as well, Hayden and Logan.
Jim retired in January 2012 after 34 years in the military. He was a member of the 148th Fighter Wing for the last 25 years. LuAnn has been a physical therapist since 1988 at Mercy Hospital. She specializes in pediatrics.
LuAnn has been involved with the Miss Barnum pageant through the years, and Jim has worked with the Spring Fever Days parades. He is also a supervisor for Skelton Township. Both have helped with Turkey Bingo, basketball programs, and post prom. Jim and LuAnn are both active members of Holy Angels Catholic Church. And, both are self-proclaimed Packers fans.
LuAnn was the very first Miss Barnum 40 years ago. Royalty runs on both sides of the family — both have sisters who have been in the court and Jim’s parents, Gene and Betty Charboneau, were grand marshals in 2002.
When asked how they would describe Barnum, they said, “It’s a caring community. It is small enough that kids can participate in any activity they desire. Things move at a nicer pace in our community as opposed to some of the larger areas we have lived in. When we left Barnum for the Air Force, we always wanted to return. We love our community and we are thankful we were able to return to Barnum to raise our family.” As Jim always tells his Duluth friends, “It’s always 75 and sunny in Barnum.”
Congratulations and thank you Jim and LuAnn, on behalf of the Barnum Area Community Club.
