Moose Lake Star Gazette - Serving Carlton and Pine Counties since 1895

From the Editor

With great excitement I’d like to say, “Hello, Moose Lake!”

I’m new to the Star Gazette and Evergreen, though I’m no stranger to the town. I do, however, have to admit that I haven’t spent as much time here as I would have liked to since graduating from Moose Lake High School in 2002. I’ve been busily playing with, chasing, cleaning up after (the list goes on) my two rambunctious children, 9-year-old Sam and 5-year-old Grace, along with working full-time. Though, I couldn’t do any of it without the support of my amazing husband, Paul.

With the purchase of the Star Gazette and Evergreen by Franklin Newspapers, Inc. came the offer of the editor position here. Needless to say, I accepted, happy to return to the town I grew up in.

I’ve been in the newspaper business since 2003, having started at the Askov American as proofreader, gradually taking on more duties until I was offered the editor position there. I’ve learned a lot in those years and I plan on incorporating that knowledge into the Star Gazette and Evergreen. I’m confident these two publications will make Moose Lake proud.

I’m excited to be a part of the Star Gazette team. With the start of a new job, and the feeling of being the “newbie,” I was feeling anxious about the move. Now that I’m here, I have no idea why I felt that way — Heidi, Chris, and Carol have made me feel right at home. The lovely ladies here even welcomed me with flowers, which they inconspicuously set on my desk directly alongside my computer during lunch. In an effort to remain focused and not completely throw a wrench in the operations of the office, I didn’t notice the flowers for at least three hours. I felt a bit silly, but it was quite funny. We shared a good laugh.

I look forward to reporting the news of the area, working with the people of the community, and invite your input. I would also like to invite submissions for the paper, whether it be a photo from a local event or just a quick note to let me know something’s happening. Feel free to email me at evergreen@mlstargazette.com.
